As a graduate of a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Maaori
Indigenous studies, my interests, and passions for whaanau, hapuu
and iwi advancement are fuelled by the legacies forged for generations before me. Attending Te Kahui Iti Nei O Te Kopu and Te Kura Kaupapa Maaori o Waiuku has provided me with an enriching experience of Te Ao Maaori and an inextricable tie to Tahuna Marae. I have been involved with Health Through The Marae for over 20 years and have experience in advisory and governance across local government through the Tuia Programme, rangatahi advocacy throughTe Ara Rangatahi, and cultural and business spaces. Continuing to grow my kete matauranga, I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Health Science in Midwifery at the Auckland University of Technology.

My background is in nursing, I’ve spent the past 23 years in both Hospital ED and GP practice environments working in marae and aboriginal reserve settings here in Aotearoa and the remote outback areas of Australia. Having lived under the korowai of Ngaati Te Ata for over 30 years Health Through The Marae became a huge part of my life. Taking part in aerobics classes in the early 90’s to becoming an aerobics instructor where sharing the joy of physical activity with whaanau became the norm on the marae. The many activities and programs offered through physical activity, gym facilities, a GP, reignited my childhood dream of becoming a nurse and I’ve been nursing ever since. As we strive to uphold the legacies of those gone before us we continue to seek out opportunities to enhance the wellbeing of whaanau through Innovation, Creativity and Inclusion.
